Richard Watson and myself took to the streets of London at 6am on Sun Aug 10th to take part in a very wet Prudential Ride London 100. The Velo Club Motel team should have been three strong, but David Ross was still not fully recovered from a broken collarbone earlier in the year.
Due to the adverse weather conditions both Leith Hill and Box hill were taken out of the route. This was very disappointing, but the decent from Newland's Corner made it quite clear that the correct decision had been made.
Since there were very few hills to tackle, we took it upon ourselves to go as fast as we could. It was pretty much full gas from the start line and at one point I looked back to see we had created a pretty impressive peloton behind us as those we had passed jumped on the back of the Motel train. We kept going full pelt, as did the rain, and were dragged along the last 20km by a rider who had obviously saved a bit for the end.
We were raising funds for the charity Centrepoint which Richard also does voluntary mentoring for.
