A series of photography courses to help photographers learn the facts and skills that they need to succeed.

Motel prides itself on being a centre of excellence within the photographic industry.  Set in a victorian railway arch that dates back to 1865, this luxurious, boutique studio, has hosted countless photo shoots with celebrated professional photographers and leading international brands.

Established and run by photographers, we are pleased to bring you THE ACADEMY. A series of specifically designed courses to help emerging or established photographers learn the facts and skills they need to succeed in all areas of photography.

Our London photography courses are designed to comprehensively cover the knowledge you need to be in command of your equipment.

DSLR for beginners will cover the fundamentals of using your DSLR camera, while our Assistant's Lighting Course is designed to introduce you to all areas of 'studio' lighting. Flash, Tungsten, HMI and LED are all covered as the often confusing world of distribution and grip. Run in conjunction with Pixi Pixel, one of London's leading lighting suppliers, participants on our Assistant's Lighting Course will qualify for our 'affiliates discount' here at MOTEL.

DSLR For Beginners

This course will teach you about your Digital SLR camera and how to get the best from the different settings. It will give you the necessary skills and the confidence about how to use your camera on the manual or semi manual modes, utilising the cameras maximum potential. A combination of theory and practical exercises will have you using your camera more creatively and getting you to test out the many different modes. You will come away with a clear understanding about your camera and new levels of technical knowledge which in return will improve your photographs.

Assistant's lighting course

Our assistants lighting course is perfect for anyone who aims to assist established photographers, or for assistants who want to broaden their equipment knowledge. It will show you a range of different lights and cover all the basics from setting up, shooting and taking down.

With a mixture of demonstrations and hands-on practical exercises this course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about lighting but also to grasp an understanding about why you would use certain lights and the different outcomes.
